Welcome to Show #61!

There’s a box of Babylon 5 novels sitting here, books that were rescued from unknown fates at used bookstores in his area by Brad from PodCulture. What are your thoughts on having a section where folks can find B5 novels for those who are looking for them?

Tim Callender, Summer and Tim Adamec chat about their thoughts on the upcoming “Lost Tales”, because we don’t have any official new news to talk about. More polygons!

Deep Geeking: Tim C. and Summer talk about the entertaining and revealing episode “There All The Honor Lies”, wherein Sheridan is lured into being suspected of murdering a Minbari, and many secrets and half-truths are shaken out during the course of investigating what happened.

We get a glimpse of the divide between the Minbari, in terms of Delenn’s change and their opinion of Sheridan now running the station, a taste of the complications of merchandising and how that impacts diplomatic relations, and a deeper look into the relationship between Londo and Vir.

Idealistcally, the truth will out, despite the many nuances surrounding Minbari honor and holding to the truth of things. And remember, there is always beauty in the dark.

“There All The Honor Lies” is available for download from iTunes.

Listener Feedback: Bill in Chicago on outtakes; Bill again, with appreciation for the podcast and a Kosh joke; Kosh likes Spam? Edmund in Greenville muses the possibilities; Super Scotty on Zima; Tim reads an email from Pavel on the Top 5 and Bottom 5 episodes of the series, and that leads into an argument about why “Day of the Dead” should not be classified amongst the worst of the series.

Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.

Shameless related begging: Summer’s working to convince any publisher to do an essay collection on Babylon 5. If you’d be interested in buying one if they did do a B5 collection, let Summer know, here in comments.

Sell ’em on E-bay to help pay for the podcast.

…after sending me the middle book in the Telepath Trillogy, that is. ๐Ÿ™‚

Please please please make the books available. I have been desperately been searching for the third Centauri Trilogy book but it’s out of print and too bloody expensive to buy second hand for US$60 and ship to Australia….

If there happens to be a copy in Brad’s box of wonders, I’d love to get a hold of it ๐Ÿ™‚

Why not do cafe press? If it is good enough for JMS, why not try it yourself?

Try Cafe Press for what? These B5 novels? I didn’t think Cafe Press handled used book sales…

Oh, wait. Did you mean to reprint them? That is just asking to be squashed by the legal teams employed by the book publishers. Just because a book has fallen out of print doesn’t mean that people who don’t hold the rights to them can have them printed up.

No, we are talking about rescuing B5 novels from used bookstores and getting them into the hands of B5 fans who need or want them.

How come babylon podcasts aren’t updating on iTunes? It’s stuck on Podcast #59. Glad I found the website to download these.

I meant for Summer to publisher her book… If JMS can use Cafepress to the the B5 scripts, I would think they could handle her book requirements..

    Sound clear enough?

    Ah, I get it now.

The cool thing with having a publisher handle this project is that you’d have an editor in charge of it, who can wrangle invites to a host of famous, semi-famous and fan contributing authors, keep everyone on deadline, make sure everyone gets paid for their contributions, and get the book out to distributors and on bookshelves.

JMS has a name that will attract millions of people to his website to purchase the Cafe Press script books. As of right now, I do not have such clout ๐Ÿ™‚

I also don’t have the time to be an editor for this project, near and dear to my heart, though it is.

Summer asks during the podcast if there were different versions of B5 episodes shown in the UK compared to the US ones.

I have seen both – being a Brit living in the US – and can confirm that other than individual mild censorship done by the station sending out the transmissions (and there only in a few episodes) the two versions were exactly the same. There were no “Highlander”-like longer cuts for the UK market.
